Risdon Prison Visit and Workshop

Includes a tour of the prison hosted by the Onesimus Foundation in conjunction with the Tasmania Prison Service and lunch at the Sanctuary Cafe located next to the prison. The theme is: partnerships to engage with families in working with offenders.

The workshop showcases the results of a collaborative approach to the challenges faced by families of prisoners and offenders. It includes: Hidden Sentence Practitioners Training and the Practitioners Guide as well as innovative joint initiatives such as video homework between children at school and incarcerated parents. Stakeholders include the Children Affected by Parental Offending (CAPO) steering committee which comprise of: Tasmania Prison Service, Community Corrections, Department of Education, Department of Human Services, Child Safety Services, Onesimus Foundation, Salvation Army, Communities for Children, Save the Children, JusTas, Lady Gowrie Tasmania, Tasmania Police and CatholicCare Tasmania.

Buses will depart from the Hotel Grand Chancellor (conference venue) at 8:30am Wednesday 20th June and return by 12:30pm in time for the conference opening.

Those travelling independently need to be at the Sanctuary Café, 550 East Derwent Highway, Risdon Vale 7016 at 8:50am.

All participants must provide their full name and date of birth when registering to facilitate gate passes and bring with them a form of photo identification for the prison tour.

Cost: $50.00 per person includes transport and lunch
